Our Junior Kindergarten Program promotes children’s social-emotional development and learning in the core areas of literacy, mathematics, social studies and science. Comprehensive, integrated lessons developed around engaging themes will set the foundation for future learning in kindergarten and beyond. Our program is designed to provide direct teacher instruction in the areas of early literacy skills. Using a balanced literacy approach, the children will build phonological awareness, develop concepts about print, secure alphabet knowledge, increase oral language and vocabulary skills, and engage in writing and reading. The children will participate in shared and guided reading lessons, learn about poetry, begin journal writing and create their own books. Active learning through direct hands on experiences, centers, small and large group activities allow ample opportunities to develop, practice, extend and enrich their learning. Daily art, music and movement activities will help reinforce all of the key concepts covered in the classroom making junior kindergarten a fun and exciting place to learn. Our classroom is an environment that is warm, nurturing, challenging, creative, and safe. We strive to help each child reach his/her potential.

ART FOR KIDS
Lydia Bratton
Fridays at 10:45
Following a Pre-K standards for art , students will understand and apply media, techniques, and processes related to the visual arts. For example, experimenting with a variety of color, textures, and shapes and creating three-dimensional structures and arrangements using concrete materials or manipulatives (e.g., blocks).
Overall, this class will teach children life skills such as developing an informed perception, articulating a vision, learning to solve problems and make decisions, building self-confidence and self-discipline, developing the ability to imagine what might be, and accepting responsibility to complete tasks from start to finish.
"Compelling evidence exists that early arts experience has an impact on all aspects of a child's learning and development."
